Nothing drives performance like good teamwork. That’s why organizing and hosting meetings for cross-functional teams of ambulatory surgery center (ASC) and practice group leaders is so integral to CarePlus’ anesthesia and practice management services. It’s a prime example of the way CarePlus goes the extra mile to help client partners deliver the highest quality experience for patients and physicians.
Since its inception, CarePlus has been facilitating quarterly medical operating committee meetings for clients. This committee is key to the success, as they are an important gathering of surgeons and physicians, nurse anesthetists, anesthesiologists, and center and practice administrators designed to ensure the effective and timely discussion of key topics impacting management and clinical operations.
“The value of these meetings lies in the free exchange of information and best practices,” says CarePlus Chief Operating Officer/Compliance Officer Cassie Syme. “It’s a very thorough look at how things are going, and a chance for everyone associated with anesthesia to be together at the same table.”
Syme explains that at CarePlus’s facilitated medical operating committee meetings, discussion focuses on the anesthesia clinical side: including quality assurance, risk management, peer review, compliance, and documentation issues, as well as credentialing and staffing, and other topics ranging from specifics like ASA levels to overall clinical best practices. CarePlus facilitates similar discussions on the administrative side as well, digging into the analytics behind patient, physician, and staff satisfaction and a variety of financial indicators such as payer mix, average cases per month, time per case, and costs of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) per quarter and per case.
“We review how healthy the center is, and how things are going when it comes to anesthesia. And, we share best practices from other centers that we work with,” Syme says. “Often, knowing what someone else is doing to address a particular issue becomes a big bonus to a center. Many times, we’re the intermediary that can spread best practices from center to center. These meetings are an integral part of our business model, fulfilling many of the mandatory reporting and legal needs our clients have, as well as sharing best practices,” Syme explains.
“That’s why we host quarterly medical operating committee meetings – to deliver value to centers. The open communication and exchange of information gives us the ability to enhance and improve our services as well,” she continues. “We are always reaching to find better ways of managing anesthesia.”
