For anesthesia and practice management organizations, it is common practice to aggregate the clinical and financial data of its centers. Our experience shows, however, that collecting and delivering raw data is simply not enough.
To provide value, data must also be analyzed from the ASC’s perspective – then problems and opportunities (and trends) can be identified, and next steps can be strategized and communicated. Without relevant analysis, data is reduced to just numbers on a page.
CarePlus has a process in place to review data and best practices among its partner centers. We often find that our anesthesia intelligence can deliver a valuable impact on utilization, financial performance, and quality.
For example: Financial performance by payer.
A scheduled review revealed a sharp decline at one of our partner centers. We were able to link the decline in performance to a schedule change by a doctor who delayed surgical day starts to 9 am. By comparing data among all our centers, we realized a trend in patients with profitable, commercial payers preferring that early morning start time. By connecting these two data points we were able to help the center quickly revise its schedule and improve performance.
While most anesthesia groups would have likely noticed the financial performance decline, we believe very few would have had access to actionable data, the intellectual curiosity, strategic thinking, or open line of communication necessary to accurately diagnose the problem and implement a fact-based solution.
